Super loose and jacked up euphoric techno vibes meet rural New Zealand outsider resourcefulness on Mongo Skato's debut release. Influenced by recently discovered dirt cheap 90s house and techno records and touching base on the deliberately uncharismatic and well-humoured early DIY of 00s Dunedin/Auckland , this debut sees him plunging deep into 8 luxuriously deranged hybrid tunes. "I Don't Give It" comes out as if someone like Metamatics, BFC or DJ Tonka produced their tunes out of some shitty Wellington flat, hell bent on being extremely funky and heavy but never at the sacrifice of his unique playfulness, not to mention melody.

Opening track "Fela" is laid back BPM-wise but weirded out by casual sax bursts and the use of digitized slap bass as rhythmic device. The super flippant repetition of a pitched down vocal saying "now" balances out the track of the same name and its relatively all-out and slightly dark techno.

Though Mongo Skato's favour lies in that slightly blown-out and ramped up techno that characterizes much of this release, his vaguely tropic, goof-off tendencies mean dropping into the hybridized footwork shuffle of "Flythrua" is effortless but incessant, and that the weirdly meditative cosmic drift of "Secret Garden" feels radiant and super uplifting on its flippant lo-fi tip.

Like the full, euphoric stabs of synth melody that are often introduced midway through most of these tracks, "I Don't Give It" is bouncy, restless and virtually completely out of nowhere.
