From the desert to the heartland, east coast to west coast, Leroy Powell has spent his life barnstorming the country spreading his unique brand of music. Born in Redlands, CA, Leroy learned to play guitar on a steady diet of classic rock, blues, and classic country. After playing in several combos, Leroy got his first taste of success when he joined Shooter Jennings. He not only played guitar in this band, but also contributed his arranging and songwriting skills. He penned the live favorite, Busted in Baylor County, a classic outlaw country narrative with a nod to Black Sabbath. After several years of touring and recording with Shooter, Leroy departed the band to focus on his own venture, Leroy Powell & the Messengers. The Messengers went through many shows and members producing several records in the process. Leroy moved to Nashville, and trimmed the Messengers to a power trio. What ensued from this were two records, Atlantis and The Snowblind Moonshine Deathride, records as heavy as their titles. Eclectic mixes of ZZ Top and 70′s heavy metal, country with a heavy dose of psychedilia and grindhouse movie mania. Once again Leroy hit the the road playing sheds and opening for Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow in the the Summer of 2011. After returning from tour, he disbanded the Messengers and formed the new group, the Stone Jack Ballers, adding a pedal steel to the mix. With the new group comes a new sound, a diverse brand of country music that will appeal to purists and fans of contemporary country. In the coming months, the Ballers will be releasing their debut record and hitting the road, including an opening stint with ZZ Top, 3 Doors Down, and Gretchen Wilson this summer of 2012.
