This CD attempts to unravel the knots of a fine story, that of the marriage between jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Their liaison first came to light in the Twenties and Thirties, most notably with Jelly Roll Morton and Duke Ellington, before reaching broad daylight in the Forties with Dizzy Gillespie, when he hired Chano Pozo, an incurable “conguero”. Also at the feast were Machito, Chico O’Farrill and, on the jazz side, Charlie Parker, the Bird in person, still a fancier of new thrills. Hot.
